About Priya

Hi there

Cook like Priya is maintained by me Priya Ranjit. I am a Tamil ponnu (girl) from Chennai. Married to the man who inspires me to cook, he has been my biggest support to start this blog. He takes great pride in my cooking and I get to do all the hard-work (sigh). So for compensation I make him buy all my fancy cutlery and join me while making dishes. A lot of work, time and effort goes behind maintaining this site right from planning, cooking, plating, clicking, editing and posting. If you genuinely like my work do share it with your friends and family.

How it all started

I feel obliged to share my story, what started off as a casual cooking and clicking (after marriage) to show my family back home in India on how I was progressing turned out that many started liking and asking me for recipes. I was on the look out for a place to post and share my recipes and hence blogging came to the rescue. Little did I know that I would meet tons of people all over the globe who encourage and give me a pat to keep me blogging. All I can say is a marriage, a re-location and freedom to try different cuisines have made my life very interesting. I have great interests in food plating and photography for which I still consider myself amateur.

Why the name 'Cook like Priya' ?

I find many strike this question to me with a quirky smile, the answer is I just felt that this is my space to share recipes that are cooked by me. I am not a professional cook or neither did I take any baking or cooking classes. I learnt it the hard way (trying on my own) and survived. Everyone is a good cook, no one can cook like you that is what I strongly believe. Hence the name 'Cook like Priya'. The biggest witness to my cooking is my husband and then my family. Whoever said that 'Food is the way to a man's heart' is sure right!

Recipes

The best way to get started is to browse through the home page. You could also use the search box on the home page. Over here you will find recipes that are tried and tested in my kitchen. CLP is well seasoned with many Indian (Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Goan) recipes, traditional recipes inherited from Amma(mother), some are own, others are shared and some are own and some are borrowed from different sources. I will give credit to your recipes, by linking them to your website and if you have any problems in me posting your recipe, you can inform me, I will remove it and keep it to myself.

Photography

I have been using various cameras in the beginning I used a Canon EOS 1000 D later moved to a humble point & shoot Sony DSC S3000, my mobile phone iPhone 5S and now moved on to a Nikon D5200 for all my food photography.
I use various editing tools and at times I don’t. The soul reason I do post processing is to make the pictures look more presentable & I do watermark my content for copyright purposes. I personally feel that nothing can beat a photograph taken under natural light. Like I said earlier I am still learning the tricks of photography but I do pretend to think that I know it all.

Blog Design

Apart from cooking I spend a lot of time in designing my blog from the header, layout, coding & the menu bar that you see. I get bit obsessed over it and love to change it from time to time. I use a Blogger platform and use  a simple template. I get asked frequently on this so I feel the need to mention this. I moved to .com on Nov 2013.
